THE PLAYERS Championship presents Much Ado About Books. Jacksonville’s premier book festival and literacy program is celebrating 13 years in 2008. This cornerstone community event has become a popular opportunity for readers of all ages to discuss books, meet authors, share ideas and browse a wide range of titles and genres.

Celebrating Florida's Natural Resource: Great Authors


 

More than 20 authors will participate in panel discussions at the festival’s signature session on Saturday, April 26, at the Prime F.  Osborn, III Convention Center. These sessions are free and open to the public. This year the Jacksonville Public Library Foundation will introduce a second venue Saturday, April 26, from 2:30 until 5:30 at the Jacksonville Main Library at 303 N. Laura Street.

An Afternon with Carl Hiaasen
 

Carl Hiassen will be returning to Jacksonville as the featured speaker at the keynote luncheon on Saturday, April 26, 2008. The London Observer has called him “ America ’s finest satirical novelist.”  Hiaasen’s newest book, The Downhill Lie, A Hacker’s Return to a Ruinous Sport will be published in spring 2008 and is a nonfiction golf book about what it’s like to re-learn golf in the Tiger Woods era. 

 

Tickets will be $40 each or a table of ten may be purchased for $350. Tickets must be purchased by contacting the Jacksonville Public Library Foundation at (904) 630-1995. No ticket refunds after April 11, 2008.

Mr. Hiaasen will be signing books immediately following the luncheon in EXhibition Hall B. Participants may bring one book from home to be signed all other books must be pruchased through the book store on site.

 

 

 
R. L. Stine Presents Young Writer's Awards

The Jacksonville Public Library Foundation is excited to announce that R. L. Stine will be the keynote author at the Joan Bowditch Young Writer's Award Presentation event on Friday, April 25, 2008. Mr. Stine will be sharing his personal perspective on writing and books with approximately 400 students at the Main Library.

The Young Writer's Award recognizes middle school and high school authors in three genres, essay, poetry and short story. This year the Foundation received over 200 entries.

Starting at 9:00 a.m. you and your child can explore the wonder of books through hands-on activities, author readings and book signings, costumed characters, and interactive fun. Join the Mayor's Book Club for celebrity readings on stage throughout the morning.
